August 2006 -- Day 1 -- The Trip TO…
After rushing to get ready this morning we made it to Niagara Falls from Aurora, ON, in record time – 2 hours! After taking a short trip in front of the falls, coming down from Clifton Hill, we headed back to the 405 highway to cross the border at Queenston-Lewiston….and we were stuck there for an hour and a half! Some border official had the absolutely BRILLIANT idea to reduce the lanes for cars crossing to ONE (from three). There wasn’t even construction. I think they were just bored.
After this bit of fun, we were very late. Ran out of time for lunch on the way. Stuck with drive-through McDonalds. (What’s with the American McDonalds menu? In Canada, the “Big n’ Tasty” is called a “Big Xtra.” I wouldn’t be caught dead ordering anything “Big n’Tasty” on principle). Missed the proclamation. Missed Eric Kohler. Almost missed the boat.
